  1. I have read a few of Elizabeth George s books and I really liked them This one is just plain awful There are some really disgusting characters in this book like Olivia, Jeannie and her son Jimmy Olivia is a waste of space as a character and as a human being She is nasty, so nasty There is not one redeeming thing about her Parts of the book are so disgusting that I skipped through them either the revolting sex parts or the animal cruelty ones This book is a total waste of money and I am now not s [...]

  2. I found Elizabeth George books quite by accident at the public library while looking for large print books I will admit the first book started slowly for me I was impatient too many descriptions, too many British words and phrases, too much character development In truth, I might categorize myself as a lazy reader I wanted a quick mystery to finish in a night or two and then to move on I almost put it down because of my impatience, but something made me stick with it And I am so thrilled that I [...]

  3. I m a huge Lynley Havers fan, but this one is NOT one of my favorites Olivia is totally unlikeable and Chris devotion To her simply isn t believable No one would put up with her as for long as he does Yet, Lynley is sympathetic to her plight The ARM Info about rescuing lab animals was way too graphic for this animal lover and I had to skip those sections What actually happened to Ken Fleming is confusing, at least I found it so I still don t understand who did what to who. Most of the relationshi [...]

  4. Generally I am a fan of Ms George s Linley Haver books, but this one left me a little cold I know next to nothing about cricket and don t care to learn I found the side plots tedious and the characters involved in them neither despicable nor likable enough to catch my interest The device of Livie s diary left me baffled what was I supposed to gain from reading the diary that I couldn t have gotten from narrative Ah, well I ll go on to the next book, glad that the tiresome question of the Tommy H [...]

  5. Started reading the Inspector Lynsey series from the beginning and I have to say this was the worst one so far No St James Why not Too much of the journaling of one characters who really was not that important to the story line An entire side plot about animal rights that just gets left behind in the end.

  6. I ve been working my way through Elizabeth George s Inspector Lynley series This is my absolute favorite so far This novel has several different storylines going on all at once, and they were all captivating and kept me riveted Prostitution and drug abuse, animal rights activism, broken marriages, a terminal, progressive illness, are some examples As always there are the familiar and beloved Tommy Lynley, Sergeant Havers, Lady Helen, etc This book was excellent and I was sad when it ended.

  7. I totally like Elizabeth George, but this one is a disappointment She is not at her best here Twisted story, notenough about Lynly and Havers the detective team that George readers have come to love and would like of I just wanted it to be over.

  8. Like meditation and crossword puzzles, Elizabeth George is good for the mind This one is different as they all are and stands out for having a first person narrative as part of the plot The way this mystery plays out and how everything ties together is particularly satisfying I always have my pencil nearby when I m reading George because there s a phrase or a word I need to remember, or a character I can t keep straight, or an angle I want to look up I discovered the Inspector Lynley series duri [...]

  9. At this stage in the series the characters feel like real people that I care about The regions where the stories are set come to life The unexpected twists are formidable Only one complaint like almost every author the phrase rise to a crescendo is used Crescendo means rising Crescendos rise to a climax Nevertheless very highly recommended.

  10. Elizabeth George is one of the finest wordsmiths I have read She is brilliant This is not a skim through quickly book, but it is something to be savoured and enjoyed.
