  1. The story starts off muddled and pretty much stays that way The President calls on Oliver, the best CIA operative ever, to investigate Russian penetration of the Mexican drug trade, but wait there is a bombing in Lafayette Park across from the White House during the British PM s visit Now, Oliver is tasked to address that with a British MI6 agent, Mary Chapman. There were four people in the park that night, including a man who was blown up where a tree was being replanted, but their alibis check [...]

  2. I am an avid Baldacci fan and have read all the Camel Club books, except Bullseye This one is not a page turner At times I thought did Baldacci really write this Annabella took a back seat in this novel That s sad because she is the gutsy cool character Caleb and Reuben also were minor characters This novel takes lots of twists, perhaps too many Anyway I finished it Please David, if you are reading this go back to the characters that made the club so enjoyable Do a prequel with Milton and the or [...]

  3. This is a good, page turner read I enjoyed this book even though I have not read the other Camel Club books in the series I read this book for a Book Club discussion, and I was worried I would not understand the characters since I did not have the Camel Club background But, that was not the case Baldacci does a good job of getting the characters traits and dimensions across even for the first time reader Plot, setting, and action are all well developed The reason I chose 4 stars instead of 5 is [...]

  4. I m a big fan of David Baldacci and was really disappointed in Hell s Corner It was choppy, confusing and trite I wondered several times if he actually wrote the book or had some protege write it like a lot of big time authors seem to be doing now I usually love his books because they are exciting and fun with lots of insider info, but this one was boring I didn t feel attached to any of the characters and I predicted most of the dramatic points in the book There is no character development I di [...]

  5. I ve been a Baldacci fan since time began and just recently discovered this fourth novel in the Camel Club series, which I have thoroughly enjoyed This novel returns protagonist Oliver Stone John Carr to government service to halt a nefarious plot to spread drugs through the US and kill a bunch of people initiated by the Russians or was it the Mexicans or the Russians.Determining who the bad guys are working for and exactly why they want to blow things up and kill the president is Stone s job, H [...]

  6. Oliver Stone isn t getting any younger, but his government still wants him In fact, everyone from the President himself to the FBI, to NCA, to the M16 yes you read that right , want him.The book starts off with Stone being ushered to meet with the President, who gives him an undercover assignment to fly to Mexico to deal with Russian drug lords But the trip never comes to fruition After the meeting, Stone is walking through LaFayette Park and finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time Gu [...]

  7. I ve never read a Camel Club book before so starting at book 5 was interesting Did I need to know the characters or read the previous books The answer is no The were a few questions about the characters past and interactions but nothing that was pressing or covered by the story No spoilers. This focuses on Oliver Stone, not the famous one, but a US operative brought back into the fold by the US president after a bombing in Layfayette Park in Washington DC Throw in the British M16 in the form of M [...]

  8. Absurd plot Ridiculous characters, well, caricatures I know this is a well liked and successful author but this is just drivel I m sad to say It starts with our hero just happening, at night, to be hanging about for no reason in a park opposite the White House, nowhere near his home, which incidentally is in a cemetery, when a bomb goes off It goes downhill fast from there Cartoon characters from the Camel Club join in, plus an English woman who, despite being in MI6, doesn t know how her police [...]
