  1. This story was well told and quite sad in many ways Hopefully the author has now researched the MTHFR gene mutation, which could be causing many of her lingering symptoms This mutation affects many who have celiac disease and real or apparent gluten sensitivity, rendering them unable to assimilate folic acid Folic acid is synthetic B vitamin added to a ALL wheat products in the US, most US rice products, orange juice, vitamin supplements, and a huge number of processed foods Like gluten, it s EV [...]

  2. An interesting description of the fight for better health when dealing with celiac disease The only reason I am not giving this a 5 star rating is due to the open ended finale As a reader I am left in limbo as to the disappearance and reappearance of the symptoms What happened to the neck and shoulder ache The narrative doesn t give a resolution to that issue Further, we learn about the Hungarian gene pool towards the end of the story, but no explanation as to what the link may be to celiac It s [...]

  3. Even though I do not eat gluten free or know someone personally with Celiacs disease, I still found myself relating to this author This essay really highlights the politics of the medical world in America, and the sheer frustration of being undiagnosed Having gone through undiagnosis myself before, this piece has helped me to realize that modern medicine does not have all of the answers Although this fact is disconcerting, it is something to keep in mind as one goes through life, especially with [...]

  4. This is not intended to be a how to guide as much as a biographical reflection on the feelings and experiences of uncertainty for someone living with a chronic illness As someone who also lives with a chronic but invisible condition, I appreciated Abel s honesty and skill as a writer.

  5. Well written on the topic Thank the author for writing a nice piece like this If you or someone you know thinks they make be gluten sensitive, read this book It ll open you to the idea, and let you in on some hard to find information With the internet so vast, this is a really nice summary of it all And then some 5 5 stars because there are so few well written books on the subject Loved the authors voice throughout.

  6. For anyone with Celiac s this author s experience with the disease will hit home It made me feel that I am not alone in my struggle I felt as though I have had similar thoughts, but was never able to articulate them as well as she has done I loved her concluding thoughts, but won t share them and spoil the book for others.

  7. This is a very well written book, I really loved how the author takes you on a journey of her ups and downs I liked how she shared details from both ends of the spectrum in regards to health, the contemporary medical establishment as opposed to the holistic approach I was very happy to see that the author sought out many different opinions on the matter In the process of healing herself, she helps a ton of people going through a similar situation by showing that there is not one overall answer o [...]
