  1. This might be a long short story or a short novella, either way, it introduces us to a couple of new characters As we now expect from author Jamie McFarlane, he walks us into a well imagined new fantasy world He brings us two new characters, feral kids from a planet that has nothing to recommend it but rain and gangsters The plot has unlikely coincidences but this is fiction, right This small bit of writing will no doubt pay off later on in the series For now, we are out of the Sol system, throu [...]

  2. Okay, is this my week for novellas masqueraded as novels 3 under 100 pages, and I feel cheated on every one because I felt like the story was just getting good This is the second in the Privateer Tales series to weigh in so small Great story, great development but it still left me hanging What is the crew going to do with a thief Hobbit Lord of the Rings comes to mindwe need a burglar.

  3. Privateers is a good read with well developed characters and an entertaining story line It is the first series that I have read in a very long time that had well developed foundational science on which the rest of the story framework is based The use of AI, smart fabric, and Internet of things, was very well integrated into the story and extended into the future The only nits I have to pick with the series are the improbable interrelationships between some of the characters, the illogical expans [...]

  4. This story is a sidebar to the main plot line of the Hotspur team Two orphans trying to escape from their mob boss who, naturally, mistreats them It s short I read it in one day But it s interesting Of course they do come in contact with the team, but their escape is never assured Enjoy

  5. Interesting novella and introduction of a new character The life of an orphan in a primitive place where the pigeons are civilized and have technology while those on the planet live in squalor with 16th century tech The contrast is pretty apparent with the vast differences between cultures just kilometers apart Overall a great, fast paced read.

  6. This is a short novella that takes place in the same story universe as Jamie McFarlane s Privateer Tales and tangentially involves some of the characters fun that story Having said that, the main character and entire world are entirely new to the series and the story holds up perfectly well as a stand alone with its own HEA It s s different sort of story of others in the series even though labeled as book 6 , but has the author s usual hallmarks of excellent writing, with great action scenes and [...]

  7. I really enjoy this series It reminds me of the Science Fiction RPGs of my youth My only issue is the reader gets dropped into the story and wasn t sure how I got there Still, a good read.

  8. I enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed it s predecessors in the Privateer Tales It hasn t changed my life but a well done action story It was surely worth the 99 cents for this short novella.

  9. Fairly enjoyable read, if somewhat short But really this should be read after book 8 as the events in this book coincide with what happens in book 8, even some of the dialogue is the same but from the viewpoint of other characters.I m not sure why the author has done this but it s confusing as the setting in this book describes events in a whole new area of space that the crew haven t even mentioned yet.

  10. Not impressed at all read the first five books, which lasted a good month or so as I usually travel to work on the bus and use this time to read, this book is around 90 pages it is too short, and the writing style is different which I don t particularly like, it s a good short story but not worthy of being called a book and honestly disappointing I want to buy the other books as they pulled me in and kept my interest, but if the rest ia like this I feel I would be wasting my time and money.
