  1. Because I have far too many books in my Kindle library, I often take a deep breath before embarking on any book that is than 200 pages long just in case it ends up not being worth my time investment One thing I ve never really read about is church history and I dread having to read some 500 1000 page book on this, so I m really thankful that this 100 ish page of super summarised version of church history was published There s no way we could get much than a tiny itty bitty little glimpse of chur [...]

  2. This book is exactly as advertised An extremely short, extremely condensed, overview of Church History It only hits the highest of the high points and refers the reader elsewhere for anything else.Think of it as, The Cliff s Notes version of the Cliff Notes. So if you re new to Church History, this is a good, quick starting point to get the grand arc of Church History, but you ll need to go elsewhere to find a complete, nuanced, and fully analyzed view.I would recommend Bruce L Shelley s

  3. I expected a comprehensive look at church history But it s actually just a collection of short essays, given by one person, from a Reformed viewpoint, or at least in some fashion It s helpful to understand some of the main issues facing the church in each Century This book is a thumbnail sketch of some of those events But it is far from a complete survey of church history I would go so far as to say it might even be a little academically irresponsible to publish a book such as this, the title pr [...]

  4. I was hoping for an actual overview of church history, not a tiny book if average standard size might be 20 pages long Though the title advertizes highlights of tweny centuries, far too many key people and events are left out Rather, each mini chapter lists a few names and dates from each respective century, yet contains neither dates for context, nor events or people who are not of the Augustinian, Calvinistic Reformed tradition.

  5. Nice, concise overview of the Christian church throughout the ages Certainly reinforces the scriptural idea that there is nothing new under the sun Encouraging to be reminded that the kingdom of God always rises above the kingdom of man.

  6. Overview of Church History A series of short chapters each covering a century gives one a 2500 feet view of Church history If you know nothing about the history of the Church this is the place to start.

  7. Definitly a digest , as one should expect of a book of this size with the scope of 2000 years of history Good starting point overview or framework prior to deeper study in any area of church history.
