  1. The Warrior Within is western meets science fiction with a simple world on the edge of a high tech civilization Complete with a monarchy led by a family hive mind, a religious system paying deference to a cadre of gods, and a man with implanted tech to rival a supercomputer, The Warrior Within is a breath of fresh air as this identity conflicted man tries to discover what his place is in his world, and the universe at large.

  2. Single skill artificial intelligences grafted onto a human mind, I m hooked 5 or intelligent skills grafted into a human mind, great, except the human does not have the capacity to hold them all so memories and experiences must be deleted, wow The second law of thermodynamics in action, there is no such thing as a free lunch The ending is a mystery, are the skills deleted Are they now integrated into one persona Does our hero now have mastery of those skills We don t know, until the next book

  3. Thought provoking and well written Futuristic vision of issues of control, faith abuse, as well as supply and demand, with surprising psychological twists An excellent first novella I am not normally a scifi reader but this one grabbed me Read it

  4. I really enjoyed this book Tor has been publishing some fantastic worlds with their novella line, and this is no exception The book tugs you along perfectly, giving you just what you need, when you need it, to remain intrigued I love the idea of exploring these little backwater cultures, with glimpses of this huge space opera backdrop Karsman s a great character, and I hope to see him again, but I REALLY want McIntyre to take us on as many tours through his universe as he can write.

  5. This was an enjoyable book with an interesting premise However, the main character still felt somewhat undeveloped to me by the end of the book I didn t have a good feel for where he came from, to end up here Perhaps this will be expanded on in a sequel.

  6. I found my self drawn in and this book did leave me wanting I feel that could be done with this setting and the ending felt a little rushed I will continue to look out for future books from this author.Enjoyable read.

  7. Now while I liked the story due to its mystery and dramatic feel I felt in unnecessary to be writing so much detail about the building or monuments itself like the book focused on about where the protagonist is surrounded by rather than the character and his personas development throughout the book Other than that it was a cool read hopefully the next one is a lit less detailed and focus on the plot

  8. A very interesting short book Reminds me of others over the years in dealing with intelligent artifacts Layers of character with an important story hidden in the layers.

  9. I bought this book on the strength of it s cover, which gave promise of an interesting world. It is a back water planet of seemingly little importance and in decline The populace eek a subsistence living scavenging from a long dead city left by the mysterious Builders When unable to sustain themselves the Muljaddy provide through obescience at Temple Karsman hides a secret from those around him whilst simultaneously acting as go to guy for the locals Newcomer s upset the status quo and secrets ar [...]

  10. Interesting ideas and love the concept for the protagonist Looking forward to stories from this new writer.
