  1. I enjoyed this, it s pretty similar to the last of the Oberon books, a novella told from Oberon s idiosyncratic perspective Some of the jokes, like his failure to grasp human time measurements, get a little repetitive and old, but there are than enough funny moments to raise a genuine smile The story itself is a bit weak, and there s a few plot holes, but that s not really the point of what should be a fun fast read. That brings me to the weakest point this is short I wasn t expecting a full nove [...]

  2. The Squirrel on the Train is Hearne s latest entry in Oberon s Meaty Mysteries Oberon, his loyal pet the Iron Druid, Atticus and fellow canine companions, Orlaith and Starbuck make for one great investigative team. The million dollar question was if Hearne could deliver a sequel worthy of The Purloined Poodle The answer is a resounding yes With his deft use of snark and humor, Hearne has proved to be a master of his game. The story begins with Atticus taking the canines on a trip to Portland to sa [...]

  3. Love Kevin s Iron Druid Series, and really enjoy the novellas from Oberon s POV Hadn t realized squirrels were such a scourge to mankind, but now I ll never regard a squirrel in the same way These novellas are not as deep as the ID series, of course, and they are a very quick read That s what makes them so great as far as I m concerned Sometimes I need something quirky, and Kevin s humor always qualifies, and the fact I can finish in one sitting is really appealing.Oberon and friends are enjoyin [...]

  4. Who s a good boy Oberon is This spin off from the Iron Druid series features the best hound in mystery I m going to go ahead and nominate him for best hound in fiction, wolfhound Oberon s point of view and clearly represents his priorities the great physics defying squirrel conspiracy, the importance of gravy and assorted meats, caution around bears, taco etiquette, and how best to help his pet Druid His fellow dogs provide ample backup, particularly Starbuck, and is a delightful short read I m [...]

  5. Kevin Hearn is on my Favorite Authors list I have read everything Iron Druid I am grateful for the side novels that he writes about Oberon first, because I love dogs and I think stories told from a dog s point of view are fun, and second, because it keeps me in the loop until the next book comes out If you haven t read the Iron Druid Chronicles, you can still read this novella and enjoy it, but you will be missing out on a much bigger world and really should read the series This is an appetizer [...]

  6. This was a fun follow up to the first Meaty Mystery I do hope that the threads opened up in this tale will be explored expounded upon in future stories, because the door was certainly left open to do so You can almost feel the joy that Kevin Hearne has when he writes these, since they re light hearted and charming, even when the subject matter temporarily gets necessarily dark.

  7. I normally do not leave reviews for books or movies because it is so subjective but Kevin is my hero and I love his sense of humor Oberon, The Irish wolfhound, is the funniest dog I know I absolutely love all of Kevin s books One thing I love about the way Kevin writes is that it is really easy to read and it is so funny that you fly right through it He is not one of those authors who feels they have to constantly impress you with big fancy adjectives that you actually have to look up I find tha [...]

  8. This is the second novella narrated by Oberon, owner of the Iron Druid It takes place in the Pacific Northwest and there are two concurrent plots one involving a murder and the other involving squirrels Good fun

  9. This is an off shoot of the Iron Druid Chronicles which should fill a few hours while travelling or in between other weightier reads It s enjoyable and, as it is centred around Oberon, it s fun to read.
