  1. An unemotional account of the second world war battle for the Atlantic, England was being starved and thousands of brave men were losing their lives to feed the country How do I know I was there and even though I was a child I understood the sacrifices that were being made Glad for your story David Boyle.

  2. Would have liked him to go into detail to fill out this very condensed report He seems to have some grudges against others who have recently gotten notoriety in the form of movies, etc.

  3. Awesome read About the Enigma machine the one using the code adopted by the German Navy in WW IIat turned the tide to allowed critical necessities to reach Britain from the USA by merchant ships What a great true story.

  4. An interesting account of a specific operation involving the use of Enigma code breaking The author cites some of the procedures utilized by the code breakers which helps the reader to grasp the enormous difficulty entailed in this task.

  5. Very well written It s amazing what both sides did in order to get ahead of the other during critical periods of time in the war Victory went to the persistent and luckiest.

  6. This a short and interesting book, but it some how on the surface as it does not go a little bit deeper into the details behind the scenes and events But I enjoyed it very much.

  9. Having recently visited Bletchley Park, and seen The Imitation Game, this short book puts the information I gained from both of those experiences in a wider context It covers Naval Intelligence and military code breaking from the First World War to 1945 I had been informed at Bletchley that the Germans were unable to break British naval codes during the war I wasn t told that the code had in fact been broken by 1936, which I learnt from this book The details of the search for an Enigma machine w [...]

  10. A brilliantly broad comprehensive look in a short space at the wartime battle of the codes So good to get a clear view of the German cypher experts who were working as hard as Bletchley Park and with considerable success in cracking British codes The genius of our oddball code breakers against the formalised German approach is fascinatingly described The detailed account of the appalling Atlantic war and its link with the code breakers on both sides reads like a cliffhanger even though we know t [...]
