  1. I m an older retired guy who decided to learn to play the guitar two years ago I tried taking lessons on two occasions, but after so many years spent in classrooms, I found that I preferred to follow my own path, regardless of how inefficient that may be at times I ve taken some online tutorials and have purchased several How To books from , some useful than others This book was surprisingly helpful to me It gave me a new understanding of scales and note patterns which simplified the fretboard f [...]

  2. This is definitely one of the best books I have read to reinforce what I already knew about soloing within the minor pentatonic scale on guitar It s for those guitarist who already have a basic understanding of the fretboard and I do mean basic, but are still not making music when they solo over a backing track or with a band It revolves around the five basic pentatonic shapes, actually only stressing two the two you will use the most , as well as mentioning the good old CAGED System, but only a [...]

  3. This author eschews boring rote read robotic mechanical memorization of the five pentatonic boxes Instead, he wants to reader player to focus on where the root note is in the pentatonic minor scale and where the surrounding scale notes are in relation to that root position He also focuses on exercises for flowing from one box to another and that s almost as far as he goes regarding the boxes I think it s a good book compared to other books on pentatonic scale playing.

  4. The book is accurate but assumes a good understanding of music theory Since it is about guitar scales the not for beginners warning on the label is NOT referring to beginner guitar players but beginners in music reading and theory That makes a big difference as my wife a band nerd the title should say Pentatonic Scale Fluency for Band Nerds who play the guitar I don t read music but have played the guitar for 50 years it really isn t much help for me, I wanted to quickly find what key the scale [...]

  5. I ve been working on knowing the fret board for about 6 months now and have almost mastered it Another 6 months and I ll be there Having regretfully never taken a guitar lesson I felt that I need to know what methods a teacher might use so I bought the Kindle book It verified that I am on the right track That in itself was worth the cost of the book It also had a few pointers My own method is to know the scale letter names and instantaneously know where those notes are I don t believe you can be [...]

  6. Spend your music method money wisely.I have seen and attempted a lot of them, and this could quite well be the best method book on connecting pentatonic scales If you can run through Box 1 without looking anywhere on the fretboard, and have a basic knowledge of the guitar in general some music theory helps , you re halfway there Nichols gives you, through clear demos and recorded examples, that little nudge to connect everything together His downloadable backing tracks help you apply what he s p [...]

  7. I have been on for years and have never submitted a review until now This book makes you rethink the entire technique and focus on visualization of the root notes If you follow the author s instruction, things will start to click several whoa moments if you will A previous review stated that the fret diagrams are upside down or for lefty they re not Standard and easy to read Thank you for the great guide Lee

  8. Purchased this for kindle While the ebook is OK, I think the paperback version would be easier to use This type of how to book does not work well as a kindle book.

  9. I really wish there was a human being who validated reviews my preceding, highly detailed review was not allowed because said I commented on who sold it I bought it direct from Even a cursory glance would show how inaccurate that was I have neither time time nor inclination to try to repeat what I wrote before, which is a shame because I tried to show just how useful this book can be.All I ll say now is that as long as you re willing to think, practise and learn from the basic which the author p [...]

  10. I have been soloing around the 5 patterns for months and my efforts started to all sound the same I tried various books and online references to try to breakout and then I stumbled across this little gem Concise, candid and to the point, the method described made me look at the minor pentatonic scale a completely different way I would recommend this to anyone who wants learn how to open up the fretboard this is an excellent way to do it No frills just follow the instructions and work at it the r [...]
